Winter, spring, summer or fall, all you have to do is call your local florist and these flowers will be at your wedding.  (Sorry for the pun — I couldn’t resist.)

Using wedding flowers that are in season can certainly highlight the mood and ambience of that particular time of year, but there’s nothing stopping you from using flowers that are available all year round as well.  They provide contrast and texture,  and they usher in more personality to your wedding décor.

Just to be clear, we’re talking about flora that is available inexpensively all year round.  Today, it’s not uncommon to see summer flowers adorning winter weddings or spring blossoms being used in autumn ceremonies.  Technology has made it possible for horticulturists to grow many types of flowers in greenhouses any time of year.  Many of these year-round blooms are actually flowers that are easy to grow in greenhouses or inexpensive to import.

Of course, if you don’t mind the expense, you could import almost any flowers during any season.  But if you are looking for a more economical option, here are some ideas for flowers that are easily (and inexpensively) available year-round.

Mixing these year-round flowers to in-season flowers is not a bad option at all.  They can soften what are otherwise formal autumn arrangements.  They can provide sophistication to commonly light summer arrangements.  Winter ceremonies can look warmer and more cordial, while spring celebrations can have a more out-of-the-box and interesting ambience.

Just remember, these flowers may grow all year round, but the color varieties may be confined to certain seasons.  For example, red or orange Asiatic lilies are available all year round, but yellow Asiatic lilies are only available from December to March or from winter to early spring.  Sometimes florists can manipulate colors by painting them, but it’s still better (in other words, less expensive) to showcase their natural tones.

So, before deciding on a floral wedding scheme, check out which hues are available during your wedding season for the flowers of your choice.  As mentioned, if you have the money to spend and you are willing to invest, you can always import or opt for flowers that were grown with the help of horticulture technology.
