Autumn may be the anti-thesis of spring, but this does not mean that your wedding can’t be adorned with beautiful flowers. The fall season is bursting with rich and dramatic colors which are enough to inspire dozens of floral ideas for your celebration. Fall in love – pun intended – with these flower ideas for your autumn wedding.
Fall wedding flowers are perfect for elegant formal ceremonies as they tend to be more elaborate and structured as compared to summer or spring flowers, and because the colors are darker. Red, burnt orange, dark yellow, bronze, and rust are just some of the common floral hues for fall. Compact dome or oval arrangements will make these flowers look more formal. If you want to downplay the formality a little bit, you can choose flowers with looser and rounder foliage. To add drama, you can arrange them asymmetrically, contrasting the deep warm colors of yellow, orange, terracotta, and red with cooler hues such as peach and lavender.
When thinking of floral arrangements for fall, don’t just think about the flowers themselves, but the complementing ornaments that will go with them. Create a beautiful and dramatic vignette. For fall weddings, traditional glass vases won’t suffice. Look for metallic vessels such as silver goblets or copper pots. If you do use glass vases, you can make the arrangement more “autumn-ish” by adding dried millets or berries at the base. Dried twigs and dried leaves are also nice touches.
If you want more texture rather than structure, you can combine stiff flowers with more cascading ones. For example, a bunch of dahlias interspersed with draping Chinese Lanterns will have a great structured-flowing contrast. You can also use fountain grass or even feathers to provide textural contrast to the typically structured flowers in season during autumn.
